Can I stay with my pet during the exam? We have worked for years to create a system to lower stress and anxiety during the cardiac exam. We discourage presence of the owners during the visit because our pets often behave very differently when the owner is present. There are very few exceptions, like police dogs who are trained to be with the handler. This is not different than a baby or young kid when the parents are present.
Do I need to leave the building or can I stay? The owner is welcome to do what they prefer. Because we don’t like to stress the patients, we take our time to work with the patients. An exam can be fast or long, the length really cannot be anticipated. You are welcome to stay in the building, but we will contact you only when the patient is ready to leave.
